Did you know that many scientists believe it was the art of social gossip that first set us apart from the other animals? That’s how we formed intimate groups and learned more about the important things in life. We’d like to continue that tradition in our area of expertise, so here’s just a taste of what’s happened this week in the world of marketing:
Clever campaigns: Cadbury egg hunt
Cadbury has announced a new gamification-style marketing initiative to engage with consumers and kill a few birds with one stone. The Mondelez-owned brand has decided to implant its cream eggs in advertisements for other brands under the Mondelez umbrella. Oreo commercials, for example, may play host to the tasty treats in a “Where’s Waldo” kind of situation.
Wisely, the campaign will end on Easter. In that time, consumers who find the hidden Cadbury eggs can take a photo or screenshot of it and upload it to Cadbury’s website to “unwrap” them. Some will win a free Cadbury Creme Egg and one person will win 10,000 British pounds. It’s like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory if the golden ticket was just a brilliant marketing strategy (which it sort of was). This clever trick will encourage consumers to watch ads for various affiliated brands and build a connection with customers. Social media discussion of Cadbury Creme Eggs is sure to spike and the company will get some details from its consumers when they submit screenshots and/or photos – all for the cost of a few eggs.
